On the evening of 24th May 2017 we were treated to a choral concert of beautiful music by the Drury Touring Choir under their conductors James Davidson and Allin Sorenson. From the Drury University in Springfield, Missouri, USA, the choir were coming to the end of a two week tour in the UK. During rehearsals they discovered the excellent acoustic of the chancel and so performed from the comfort of the ‘new’ choir pews. Performed in two halves, with an interval for refreshments in between, the programme consisted of works by European composers in the first half, Gjeilo, Palestrina, Victoria, Bortniansk and Brahms, and in the second half more modern works by American composers William Billings, Alice Parker, Stephen Paulus, Brian Schmidt and Moses Hogan. Overall the effect was both enjoyable and interesting, educating our euro-centric tastes with something ‘new’ from the across the pond. More than £400 was raised for the life and work of the church. Thank you to all who worked to make this such a success.
