The church was packed for the Induction, Institution and Installation of the Revd Dr Michael J Lakey, as the Vicar of St Mary’s Chalgrove and Rector of St Helen’s Berrick Salome, by the Bishop of Dorchester, the Rt Revd Colin Fletcher OBE, on Thursday 1st August. Visitors from Ripon College Cuddesdon and Michael’s previous parishes, together with local dignitaries and our MP, John Howell, joined the congregations of St Mary’s and St Helen’s in welcoming Michael and his family into this community. In his sermon Bishop Colin thanked all who had worked to bring about this day, and encouraged Michael to “teach, watch and pray”.
As part of the service, Michael, our Methodist Minister Revd John Anderson and churchwardens of St Mary’s signed the renewal of the Declaration of Ecumenical Welcome and Commitment.
After the service refreshments and canapes were enjoyed by all.
